Movies for January 2026
YO. New project for...me.
Since I graduated from college, I noticed that I lost the habit of consciously consume media, mainly movies.
Something that made sense to me for a while is that I was simply tired of unitedstatians movies, it saturated and I got to see that they weren't for me anymore. I was fed up of only watching their pov, their stories, always everything about them.
Another thing is that the genres of movies that frustrated me more were the mainstream, blockbuster movies that everybody was talking about. It became too much because a lot of them didn't have quality. They had hype.
Reflecting on what made me really happy or satisfied, I was always a fan of horror, no doubt. However, as time passed, the frustration with the horror genre was real. It isn't as if there weren't good horror projects. I really liked how the Haunting anthology was made and Nope by Jordan Peele is really good.
With that in mind, I thought "is the problem really me not liking movies or is it about how movies I really like aren't properly promoted?"
I don't think the companies are invested in good stories, but more on selling.
Since I have this feeling, I decided to make a project for myself title...
One movie per weekend
General rules: One movie in a week and it can't be a movie set in the USA.
Anyway, I have a list of movies to watch and, since January is almost over, here is the list of movies I watched:
- Cocoon ~From the girls of summer~
- Perfect Blue
- Matou a famÃlia e foi ao cinema
- O Agente Secreto
- Lady Snowblood
I might make a review on each one of them, but I was really happy that I could do something like that. Movies are closer to games than we may think and I don't see it as a disavantage. Movies tell stories in multiple ways and games do the same.
Hopefully I learn a lot from this and can keep the project alive for the rest of 2026!
